Belles go from strength to strength

Barrow Belles have just finished their second season as Barrow's 11-a-side girls' football team and they are extremely proud of their achievement this year. Having finished 6th in the league last season it was fantastic to finish 3rd in this season's Leicestershire and Rutland girls' FA league, gaining almost twice as many points as last season.

The highlight of the season for many players was in fact the first game of the season which saw the Barrow Belles play Asfordby Amateurs, a team which before that day we had yet to get a point off. But in an amazing performance by all the Belles we managed to beat Asfordby 3-1. And we certainly started as we meant to go on, losing only 5 of the 18 games played and winning the rest. Every single player on the Belles squad showed excellent skill and teamwork, with each and every player improving immensely throughout the year.

The success of the team is largely down to the amazing people backstage. Firstly, our manager/coach, Pete Cox. Pete has, throughout the season, shown his commitment to making the Belles great, and his confidence in every player's ability to play outstanding football is always apparent.

Pete's wife Julie, Dain and Tracey Alford together with Sarah and Dave Nicholls have also spent many hours supporting the Belles, both on the touchline and off.

We are also grateful to all the parents who have turned out for us whatever the weather and given us their support. We had the opportunity to show our appreciation to Pete and all our supporters at the end of season presentation evening, hosted by Pete himself. This was a huge success largely due to the effort put in by Pete and co.

Looking ahead to next season the Barrow Belles will definitely be chasing for top of the league. With 18 girls signed up we will surely be a contender and a worthy challenger for all teams. Watch out!
