All about youth

News on the village Youth Council, the Youth Group and the Barrow Youth Action Group.

The Youth Council is now in its second year; it is part of the Parish Council and provides a young person's viewpoint. It has recommended play equipment and spoken to a rep. from Kinch buses about weekend and evening travel. Youth Council members meet on the last Tuesday evening of the month at 7pm in the Parish Office. If you are aged 13-18 and would like to make an impact on the village please come and join in.

The Youth Group meets with the detached youth workers on Tuesdays (Arnie & Mark) and Thursdays ( Jo & Emma) at 7pm. The venue is flexible but usually they get together somewhere on North St or in the King George V recreation ground. They not only arrange activities and outings for teenagers but they also cover a variety of subjects in informal talks.

Barrow Youth Action Group was set up as a result of the Parish Plan to look for ways to meet the needs of the young people in the village. They are guided by the young people that they meet and often consult with both the Youth Council and the Youth Group about various activities, discussing initiatives and working in partnership to enhance the quality of life and provide more opportunities for young people of all ages in Barrow.

Following the tremendous success of the family coach trip to London last year BYAG is repeating the outing on 18th October. Participants will have the option of enjoying a morning tour of the House of Commons or spend the day shopping and seeing the sights. Tickets will go on sale in The Paper Shop during September; the cost will be £7.50 for adults and £5.00 for children. Look out for posters in the village with more details or contact Sharon on the mobile number below.

The canoeing events that have been run by BYAG in conjunction with Colin Broadway from The Boat House have always run at capacity with young people enjoying learning new skills as they navigate the loop past the weir and Quorn Hall. More events such as an Army Experience Day and turntabling are also planned; all the people on the BYAG mobile phone list will be reminded by sms otherwise look out for those posters!

If you would like to volunteer to help the Youth Action Group in any way or if you want advance notice of event tickets going on sale please contact BYAG on 07535342464.
