Happy Birthday Dear Library

On Saturday 2nd July we celebrated the 1st birthday of our Community Managed Library with fun, music and lots and lots of cake.

It’s hard to believe that a year has gone by since the library became the responsibility of BUSCA and we took over the running of it from Leicestershire County Council.

It has been a very successful year with a wonderful team of volunteers, led by Angeline Kazianis, continuing to run a vibrant and busy library. It is well used by the community including regular visits by Hall Orchard School and Barrow Playgroup.

What a delight it was to see so many visitors calling in to enjoy a drink and share the celebration which included book sales, a quiz and colouring for the children.

The morning was very busy with volunteers and visitors of all ages and the town crier, our very own Dave Dipple, called in passers-by with his usual enthusiasm, even drawing visitors from all parts of the world including Hong Kong and Australia! He called for the singing of Happy Birthday and even had a hand in cutting the birthday cake! In fact we had to sing twice as Lin and Debra, two of our volunteers, had brought along their mum who was sharing her birthday with the library.

A very big thank you must go to the cake makers who provided such an array of delicious items for sale. Live music was provided by Ben Lewis Skeath on saxophone, who busked outside the library for the enjoyment of many, followed by The Viva Clarinet Quartet made up of Peter, Ed, Jane and Denise who continued to entertain us all inside the library.

Thanks to Angeline and the team of volunteers who organised this wonderful party and to the many people who are supporters of the library as members and regular users.
