The Barrow Community Library celebrates its third anniversary with an Open
Morning on Saturday 7th July. This year’s Summer Reading Challenge will
launch on the same day with a little help from some local authors. The Reading
Challenge, provided by the Reading Agency, is eagerly anticipated by all our
readers aged 3-11 years. The theme this year is “Mischief Makers” and will help
get three quarters of a million children into libraries all over the country to
help keep up their reading skills through the summer holidays.
The Community Library plays an active part in this challenge by encouraging children to take up the challenge to read six books (or audio books) and collect exclusive rewards along the way... and it’s all FREE! There’ll be an assembly at Hall Orchard to explain everything, so watch out everyone! Helping launch the challenge will be visiting local authors Gemma Denham, who writes for younger readers, and Matt Beighton, who writes for juniors. They will be at our Open Morning to do readings and book signings too. There will be book sales, a cake sale, craft sale and music, so save the date and come along.
Also watch out for our developing collection of SPORTS PROGRAMMES and YEARBOOKS for teens and our new collection of graphic novels, purchased with a very generous local donation.
In the autumn, look for a fun music quiz and our ‘Talks’ programme, which will begin again on the last Wednesday of the month. The Rhyme Time sessions and craft sessions on Fridays have become fi xed and popular weekly events in the busy library calendar. Family History and pilates add to the variety.
Versatile, growing, thriving, exciting! There’s always something going on in the library. Pop in and have a look. It’s much more than just a library! Watch out on our website: www.busca.org. uk/community-groups/library. Donations to keep the library running can now be made through the BUSCA website under “Donate to the Library”.
The library space is available for hire. For details email firstname.lastname@example.org or ring 01509416356
