Sam loves Victoria Jane!

The gift shop Victoria Jane was Sam Baker’s favourite Barrow shop. It might even have been Sam’s favourite shop anywhere at all. So when she discovered that it was about to be sold she greeted the news with dismay. However, a moment later, she realised it was her golden opportunity. Told by other enthusiastic customers that she would be doing the community a service by keeping it open, she bought both business and its name and took over Victoria Jane on August 8th.

Sam was brought up in Countesthorpe and elected to attend the then infamous Countesthorpe College. Despite its notoriously informal approach to secondary education, she was a well motivated student and gained the qualifications to become a nurse. She worked for many years at Leicester Royal Infirmary, involved in their cancer research programme. Her role included supporting cancer patients who were trailing new drugs. She found this very rewarding and really felt she was making a difference to people’s lives at a very difficult time. Five years ago she decided that she needed to spend more time with her young family so gave up her nursing career. She has been helping at Barrow Playgroup since then. Sam moved to a new house in the Willow Road estate eight years ago. She and her family enjoy family yoga as well as walking the family cockatoo, Scrumpy.

Sam has thrown her heart and soul into developing Victoria Jane. She has asked her regular customers what they would like to see in the shop and consequently she is now stocking new lines, including clocks, mirrors, cushions, photo frames and other household goods – items that make a home feel special. She has also introduced a range of luxurious but inexpensive scarves and handbags and some beautiful hand-finished greetings cards. As Christmas approaches you can expect a wide range of Christmas decorations and more gifts to help you find that special present.

Barrow Voice wishes Sam well in her new venture.
