More Than Just a Library

“There’s always something different going on in this library!”

This was the comment made by a recent visitor to the Valuation Event in the Library; one of many varied events on offer. It was always the intention that the Community Library space would be used fully to benefit the Barrow community and it seems we are being noticed and appreciated! The library space is proving very versatile and has recently lent itself to a quiz night, a valuation event, talk venue, craft club venue, meeting room, keep-fit space and many more.

And yet… the library itself, its books and resources, are at the heart of this community effort thanks to the local people of the village and our amazing, growing number of volunteers. In addition, 75 Year 5 children, from Hall Orchard School, were welcomed in September to begin their regular visits to the library, which we hope will establish good reading habits for life. Weekly Saturday Stories and fortnightly Rhyme Time also attract new younger readers.

It’s not only the inside space which buzzes with activity! Three large planters (expertly made by our volunteer, Nick) were recently added to our pavement, enhancing our frontage and deterring vehicles from mounting the pavement, dangerously close to library users.

Versatile, growing, thriving, exciting! There’s always something going on in the library. Pop in and have a look. It’s much more than just a library! The library space is available for hire. For details email library@barrowuponsoar.org.uk or ring 01509 416356. Donations to keep the library running can now be made through the BUSCA website under “Donate to the Library”.
