Village Life
Christmas Tree Festival 2
- 4th December 2005
Following the success of their first ever Christmas Tree Festival last year, Holy Trinity Church is planning their second Festival in December. Last year, over 1500 visitors were surprised by the imagination and inspiration for the decoration of over 50 trees ranging in sizes from 18 inches and 12 feet. Some people were so impressed that they made one or even two further visits to be able to take in all the displays. In the region of £1800 was raised towards the disabled toilets for the Church Rooms. That work has been recently completed and our thanks go to all who supported us. This year the money raised will go towards the £25,000 required to restore the pinnacles on the Church tower and other stonework repairs, a substantial sum!
Once again the Festival will start with a wine and cheese evening when the tree lights will be switched on for the first time. There were gasps from the 70 or so people there last year. The evening is open to everyone and not just the exhibitors. More details will be available in due course.
Following the switching on of the village Christmas lights last year, the Church was full of people viewing the Trees and with the Village Youth Theatre's production of "The Lion,The Witch and The Wardrobe" that day, the whole of the village had a real buzz about it. Many people took advantage of the quieter time on Friday and Saturday morning and stayed for refreshments, which come highly recommended.
Anyone may enter a tree. There is no charge; just enter a tree decorated by yourself or with others . Further details will be available soon but Elizabeth & Mike Domokos (412153) or Ann & John Beaumont (412609) will be only too pleased to give details or take bookings in the meantime.
Barrow Website attracts more interest
The Parish Plan has triggered quite a lot of households to express an interest in getting involved in the website, or just finding out more about it. So the organising team have set up an informal get-together to make this possible. Barrow library is going to be available on Monday 26th September from 7.30pm .
We will have access to the three computers and so we will be able to share with you the contents of the site and the way in which it is run.We would also like to explain some of our pipe dreams for developing new features and pages. For example, we would love to be able to take up the offer of loaned equipment for recording ‘local history’ from some of our Barrow residents; we have been asked several times if we could have a ‘Days Out from Barrow’ leisure section; some of the businesses that appear in the Shopping section have asked us to create a Barrow Business Directory; and can we help young people to create their own page? We are sure that the evening will also produce new ideas ‘from the floor’.
Hopefully, the outcome of the evening will be to enlist the help and involvement of many of the people who expressed interest via the Parish Plan.
