Call for Volunteers

Many of you may not know that the beautifully kept roundabout at the end of High Street is called Jerusalem Island. It has long been a centre piece of Barrow upon Soar and has always been maintained by a band of dedicated volunteers. The volunteers have sadly decided it’s time to hang up their gardening gloves.

The Parish Council is looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to help carry on this tradition. Do you love being outdoors and want to make a difference in your local community? Whether you are an experienced gardener or just starting out, everyone is welcome. Tasks will include planting, weeding, watering, and general garden maintenance.

Help us keep Barrow Upon Soar’s Jerusalem Island looking beautiful. Please contact the Parish Council office on 01509 416016 if you are interested.

Christmas light Switch-On and Market

We will be holding the popular annual ‘Christmas Light Switch On’ event again this year on Saturday 29th November from 2.30pm -5.30pm. This year we are excited to share the installation of our new Christmas Lights motifs! Come along for the big reveal!

There will be a variety of stalls selling delicious food and drink as well as lots of local artisan crafts, our entertainment stage with live festive music, including a brass band, local school choir and Sing it Happy. Special guests will be revealed on the day too. Stalls will again be extended to the Soar Bridge Inn where you will receive a warm welcome.

New Councillors

Barrow upon Soar Parish Council is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Parish Councillors and warmly welcome:

Jamie Dyas

My name is Jamie Dyas.

I was born in Sileby and moved to Barrow in 2019.

Barrow is a delightful village to live in, and I hope to give back to this wonderful community that has helped me so much for many years and shaped me into who I am today. I also hope to give a voice to young people, who often feel ignored and forgotten by society. In my spare time I am a keen trainspotter and motorsports enthusiast.

Kathy Hughes

I’ve lived in this lovely village for four years now and in the Charnwood area for many years. Now that I am retired, I look forward to giving back by serving on the Parish Council and as a member of the Open Spaces and Community committees.

Well done to the community groups that were successful in receiving a Parish Council Annual Community Fund Grant in April 2025. The projects are all very nearly completed and have helped to enhance community groups and spaces.

The grants will be available again at the Annual Parish Meeting in April 2026.

If your group has a project in mind watch out for further information on our website and social media pages.

If you would like any further information, please get in touch!
