An Indian meal at The Three Crowns

On a very cold evening in January, six curry enthusiasts went to sample the new menu at The Three Crowns. We came away warmed with spices and pleased with the meal.

 serve a freshly-cooked meal

We started with some excellent onion bhajis, obviously just made from scratch, light and crisp and far nicer than supermarket ones. For the main meal we each had something different and everyone complimented the chef on some really delicious curries (korma, karahi, makhani and vindaloo). We shared rice, naan and roti.

Roy commented that the meal was very like some of the curry houses in Bradford – a limited range of curry sauces and a wide range of meats, paneer (cheese), Quorn or vegetables to go with the sauces. No fancy presentation but really authentic and tasty curries.

For desserts we enjoyed carrot halwa (grated carrots simmered for ages in sweetened milk with spices) and kulfi (Indian ice cream that is very creamy and scented with cardamom). Again, presented very simply but full of flavour.

If you are a curry fiend and you are looking for authenticity then The Three Crowns is the place to go. This is hardly unexpected because the publican and chef, Sach (Shah) originated from Kenya himself so he does know what’s what.

Thank you, Sach.
