Barrow COP 27 - A new Barrow Group “Greener Living”

I
f you are interested in trying to live more sustainably and sharing your ideas on how to lead planet-friendly lives, then come along and find out more at a new Greener Living Group which will have its first meeting in the library on Wednesday March 29th at 7pm. All ages are welcome.

The group wants to explore positive things that we do as a community and as individuals to improve the future for our children and grandchildren.

There is no one, simple solution. Let’s learn, share, raise awareness and do things together. There are no sinners or saints; we all have degrees of responsibility. The evidence for climate change is overwhelming, it is already here and will become increasingly severe depending on what everyone does.

The group is new and the range of possible topics/projects that we could tackle together is vast, for example:
• What do we need to consider before investing in a heat pump?
• How might we adapt to climate extremes?
• How can we support pollinators (e.g. bees) in our gardens and on our verges?
• How could we grow vegetables amongst our flower beds?
• How can we share ideas on ways to insulate and draft-proof our homes?
• Are solar panels and batteries a good personal financial investment?
• How can we store and use water wisely?
• Which foods are eco-friendly and healthy?
• Do we want public e-charging points in the village for electric cars?
• Is a car sharing scheme possible and/or should we campaign for better public transport?
• How can we reduce plastic waste?
• How can we express our views to those who have influence (in a non-political way)?
• Which furniture will last a lifetime, gain value and cost little?
• Should the group develop a Facebook page and/or write articles for Barrow Voice to share ideas.

These are just a few ideas and possibilities. All of us have a responsibility and can contribute to positive change. Everyone can contribute but the Greener Living Group needs your help, enthusiasm and support.

If you would like to discuss these ideas further, help shape this new group and meet like-minded people, come along to the first meeting. You can contact Bob Johnson (07572188616) or Judith Rodgers (07718153117) for a discussion or to find out more. Can we come together as a community to make Barrow a greener place to live?

COME TO A 1st MEETING TO DISCUSS FORMING A NEW GREENER LIVING GROUP
