Two’s company but is three a murder? Murder Mystery Review

 Murder Mystery Cast

I have attended the village murder mystery a number of times over the years and on every occasion, I’ve noticed that two things never change: the first is that I have never correctly worked out who the killer is. Not even once. I would make a terrible detective. The second, however, is that the performance is always extremely enjoyable. It’s so entertaining to watch, in part because it’s clear that the cast are really enjoying themselves on stage which goes a long way to making the audience enjoy themselves too. There’s never a single lack lustre performance of any character and this year’s performance of Two’s Company produced in November was no different.

The last two years have been understandably difficult for theatrical groups with some performances being made into digital experiences or being cancelled altogether so it was a real pleasure to be able to see a live performance once again and, considering the turnout, I wasn’t the only one. We should also thank the lovely people at the Holy Trinity Church for hosting the evening since, without a venue, there can be no show.

The suspect-questioning portion of the evening was, as usual, an interesting experience. This is typically the point in the investigation that I struggle with because I can never work out what questions to ask and who to ask them to. I also forget that the killer can lie which doesn’t help. Nevertheless, by the end of the questioning every team submits their own idea of what happened before the customary big reveal and confession of the fiend who was responsible. It really is a shame that this doesn’t happen in all murder cases.
