DAVID LEESE HONOURED BY ECHO

Rev David Leese, the Methodist Minister in Barrow, is presented the Echo's New Year's Honour by the Mayor of Charnwood.

The Mayor presenting David Leese with his award.

There is no doubt in anyone's mind who knows the Rev David Leese, the Methodist Minister in Barrow, that he is a star and fully deserving of the Echo New Year's Honour that was bestowed upon him by the Mayor of Charnwood in February this year.

He was nominated for the endless time he gives to members of his large Methodist area of Mountsorrel, Quorn, Woodhouse Eaves as well as Barrow. Although his workload is great he doesn't let it detract him from visiting the sick either at home or in hospital and doing his best to nurse them back to health, or being there for anyone who needs his help.

Unfortunately he will have to move onto another parish within the Methodist Circuit in a couple of years and he will be sadly missed by all who know him. He may have only been here for a short time, but there are many who have already, and will in the future, have benefited from his presence.

This isn't the only flock David looks after either, he also breeds chickens in his 'spare' time and is a national judge. His talents one might say are endless...

SEPTEMBER DATE FOR NEW PARISH PRIEST

The new Parish priest John Whittaker will be arriving in the village soon

We are pleased to introduce and welcome the new vicar for Holy Trinity Church. Reverend John Whittaker and his wife, Helena, will be arriving in the village very soon with their two children, Edward, 5 and Anna, 3. Helena teaches part time. Edward is to go to Hall Orchard School.

John worked as a Chartered Accountant prior to going to theological college at Ripon College, Cuddesdon in 1997. He was ordained in 2000 and has been working as Curate in Melton Mowbray since then.

John has enjoyed his time at Melton as curate immensely and now looks forward to the responsibility of his own parish. He will be made Priest in Charge of Barrow upon Soar and Walton le Wolds on 3rd September 2003.

John has passed through Barrow on numerous occasions, but always in a Funeral Director's limo, as Barrow falls into the route from Melton to Loughborough crematorium. He looks forward to building up a slightly wider perspective of the village than this!Regarding the move, John said: 'I sense that members of Holy Trinity Church, Barrow and St Mary's, Walton are committed to cooperating with God's work of bringing about love, forgiveness and reconciliation within the communities. It is very exciting to be coming to take my part in that task and to become part of the life of the community.'
