BARROW PRE-SCHOOL PLAYGROUP

Barrow Pre-school Playgroup is registered with OFSTED to run morning play sessions. We are a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance and are a registered charity. Children can attend from 2 1/2 to 5 years of age.

We have two venues in the village:

Group 1 Monday and Wednesday 9.15 a.m. – 11.45 a.m.
Group 2 Tuesday and Thursday 9.15 a.m. – 11. 45 a.m.
Group 3 Friday (3 years + group) 9.15 a.m. - 11.45 a.m.

Group A Tuesday and Thursday 9.15 a.m. – 11.45 a.m..

2 O’CLOCK CLUB

The club is open from 9.30 a.m. – 11.30 a.m. on Friday morning each week. Our meetings are held in the Community Centre Lounge, where mums with pre-school children meet together for a coffee and a chat, whilst their children play with the toys available and socialise with other children.

We always welcome new mums and children who are our future!

‘We Act As One’ and therefore, encourage everyone to join in.
The club is for you and only works as well as its members, so ENJOY!

BABYSITTING CIRCLE

Open to all village residents the babysitting circle exists to enable parents to get out in the evenings with the knowledge that their children are in the care of a responsible adult.

B.O.S.C.A.P.S.

A local playscheme for 5-12 year olds, which runs for one week during the summer holidays, at Humphrey Perkins High School.
A wide range of activities is available, arts, crafts, drama workshop, sports, games, entertainers and trips.
The scheme is staffed by 6 co-ordinators and a large team of volunteer helpers without which BOSCAPS could not continue.
The playscheme is a valuable community facility. New helpers and ideas are always welcome.

BARROW-UPON-SOAR YOUTH CLUB
(HUMPHREY PERKINS – COTES ROAD)

A village Youth Centre situated on the edge of Humphrey Perkins High School campus, open to all young people aged 11-25 years of age.
The Youth Centre offers a variety of sessions throughout the week. All sessions are run by experienced and qualified Youth Workers.
Monday: 12.25 pm - 1.20 pm Lunch Club
7.30 pm - 9.30 pm Senior Club for ages 14+
cooking, sports activities,
Information & advice and trips out.
Tuesday: 12.25 pm-1.20 pm Lunch Club for all ages, pupils get up to speed on the
I.T. computer or do homework.

5.00 pm-7.00 pm Junior Club for ages 11-13, sports, art, cooking, trips
disco’s and discussions.
Wednesday: 12.25 pm-1.20 pm Lunch Club
Youth Counsellor this service is available for
all ages. No appointment
necessary for this session.

BARROW TOWN YOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB

The club promotes and provides football for over 150 young people aged between 6 and 18 years of age. There are currently 12 teams playing in local leagues and cup competitions. Matches and training take place at Riverside Park or Humphrey Perkins High School.

CHARNWOOD SCHOOL OF DANCE & DRAMA

If you want to dance, come along and join our Dance & Drama School. Qualified staff and visiting teachers will teach you all forms of dancing:- ballet, tap, modern etc. and stage work.
Beginners of any age (from three years) are most welcome. You can have many hours of work, fun, fitness and participate in festival competitions. Classes held in the village and in Quorn.

1ST BARROW-UPON-SOAR GIRLS’ BRIGADE COMPANY

Explorers : 5 – 8 years 6.15 p.m. – 7.30 p.m.
Juniors : 8 –11 years 6.15 p.m. – 7.45 p.m.
Seniors : 11-14 years 6.15 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.
Brigaders : 14-18 years 6.15 p.m. – 8.00 p.m.
Girls’ Brigade is an international and interdenominational Christian uniformed organisation open to All girls Each section of the company has its own badge work programme when the girls learn a variety of skills and take part in activities which are aimed at their personal development and having fun .
Activities, competitions, fun days and parades are important aspects and often take place with other companies in the area. Training girls with the skills of leadership is important in the older age groups.
The Band provides a service to the Community and offers the opportunity to all girls to learn to play an instrument and enjoy making music. A band leader is required at the present time.
Anyone wishing to know more about joining the company as a girl or as an adult helper should contact an officer or come along on a company evening.
