Brownies raise hundreds of pounds for refugees

On Saturday 2nd April, the 1st Barrow Brownies held a fundraising event at Bishop Beveridge Club for Ukrainian refugees. There were five stalls: refreshments including lots of delicious homemade cakes, bric-a-brac, Easter crafts, a raffle and a children’s tombola.

The Brownies had been learning about refugees and people’s rights. Some of the girls were aware of what was happening in Ukraine and wanted to make a difference to the people who were affected. They worked together to plan a fundraising event which would bring the community together.

The room was beautifully decorated with yellow and blue balloons and Brownie-made bunting and the tables were crowded with people. The food stall had over 15 types of cake and people were queuing up to have a slice with a hot drink. The tombola was one of the busiest stalls with over 200 prizes to win. Some lucky people went home with bags full of prizes!

The Brownies were in charge of running the stalls, with some help from the leaders and parents. It was a great chance for the girls to meet different people from the community and the Brownies discovered what a generous village Barrow is. So many people offered donations for the tombola, raffle, cake sale and bric-a-brac! Local businesses also showed their support by donating some amazing prizes for the raffle. Others displayed the posters in their windows as well as on the village’s Facebook pages.

The Brownies are excited and proud to announce that they raised an amazing £871! The next step in this fundraiser is to make sure every penny goes towards helping Ukrainian refugees by working alongside the Polish Club in Loughborough to buy items and food that can be given to the refugees. Well done 1st Barrow Brownies and the people of Barrow for such a successful fundraiser!
