Libraries have long since lost the image of dusty tomes and hushed voices and Barrow’s library, a vibrant community facility welcoming visitors of all ages, is a perfect example of this. While book borrowing remains a key service, there is so much else to enjoy and engage in. Craft and chat sessions, a scrabble group, children’s chess club, rhyme time, sewing and India inspired workshops, coffee and chats, free access to computers – there’s even a magazine swap box. If none of these are for you, you don’t need to be a member of the library or join any groups to drop in and read a newspaper, have a cup of tea or meet a friend.
If you haven’t visited the library recently, you will notice a more attractive and spacious layout using more wall shelving and making it easier to prepare the building for hiring out for activities such as yoga, pilates and singing on non-library days. There are other plans for refurbishment so do keep popping in to see the changes.
