After many months of petitions, discussions and meetings two bus companies, Centrebus and Vectare, have now announced new services covering Barrow and Sileby going all the way through to Leicester, which many people are very pleased with.
The No 2 bus service, going from Leicester to Loughborough was very important to local residents and since the service stopped going to Leicester, local councillors, parish councils and Barrow’s member of parliament have been working to try to reinstate the service or find an alternative.
The new services are not a perfect solution however they are a marked improvement on what was previously offered.
The Centrebus 128 has the following route:
Leicester – Birstall – Cossington – Sileby – Barrow upon Soar
It has three daytime journeys in each direction per day, Monday to Saturday. Two of the outbound journeys route directly between Birstall and Barrow-upon-Soar via the A6, one outbound journey routes via Cossington and Sileby.
The Vectare 2X has the following route:
Loughborough – Sileby – Cossington – Leicester
It is a Monday to Saturday service, for early mornings going to Leicester and evenings returning from Leicester.
Although this bus does not directly stop at Barrow, it gives residents at the southern end of the village the option to walk to get the bus from Sileby.
