AN EPIC CHALLENGE FOR TWO LOCAL SISTERS RAISES MONEY FOR WORTHY CHARITIES

On 30th July 2021, two young Barrow women, Felicity and Chloe Hurst triumphantly completed the Trent 100 challenge, in what the organisers called the “toughest Trent 100 yet”! 

After zero hours of sleep in the tent, on Friday they paddled 57km into a headwind, in the rain for 9.5 hours, from Cannock Chase in Stafford to Willington in Derby. Team morale was pretty good, but a brief trip on land for soggy sandwiches was a low point! Their winter and bad weather training certainly paid off, as 4 teams did not finish on Friday. But they continued!

Day Two and the rain finally stopped; 43km downstream but with limited flow, they paddled to Holme Pierrepont for the finishing line in Nottingham to be greeted by lots of fab supporters! 

Felicity decided to fundraise for the charity Headway – the brain injury association. She raised £1,030; this could provide 4 training courses for survivors of brain injury and their carers, or run the UK helpline for 4.5 days to give survivors access to specialist information. 

Chloe raised £483 for The Air Ambulance Service, which will enable the operation of the emergency helicopter services to make bereavement through trauma rare.

Anyone who has tried paddleboarding on the Soar will appreciate that this was one epic challenge!
