Barrow in Bloom

We have entered Barrow in Bloom this year and are looking forward to seeing the beautiful floral displays around the village. Community involvement and activities are also taken into account by the judges. The judges will be visiting during the first two weeks of July, a special route has been planned out for the day.

Good Luck Barrow in Bloom!

Plaques on Jerusalem Island

The plaques on the Jerusalem Island monument were kindly painted by Raymond Stafford in 2003. They represent various historical people, such as Humphrey Babington and Humphrey Perkins, who have contributed to the village. The elements have taken their toll on the plaques and they are in need of refurbishment. If any residents have any further information on the plaques we would love to hear from you.

New Councillors

We would like to welcome and introduce our 3 new Councillors, Cllr Christine James, Cllr Stuart Hartle and Cllr Andrew Norris.

Christine James
Barrow-upon-Soar was the village in which my husband and I chose to bring up our two daughters, when we moved to Leicestershire 28 years ago. I have seen how the village has developed over that time and now I am retired I want to give back to the community and work to ensure Barrow continues to evolve and progress, while remaining a lovely village in which to live and work. My hobbies include amateur gardening, sewing and spending time with my family.

Stuart Hartle
Born in Derby, I moved to Barrow in 1993, and this has been my home ever since. I’ve had a full and successful working life in the engineering and software industry, as well as academia, and have travelled extensively.

Barrow is a fantastic village to live in! It offers great facilities, local amenities, and transport links. I believe that a thriving local community is essential for fostering a harmonious village life. Residents should be given a voice, ensuring fairness and equality, so that Barrow Upon Soar can reach its full potential and serve the needs of all. Where issues affect village residents, solutions should be found so that the village is enhanced and continues to be progressive.

As a new member of the Parish Council and a local resident, I look forward to participating in future meetings and sharing my expertise wherever needed.

Andrew Norris

We moved to the village 34 years ago in 1990 and during this time we raised our two children who attended Hall Orchard Primary School and Humphrey Perkins before moving onto Rawlins Academy. I was involved with the local Neighbourhood Watch from the start in the early 1990s to around 2017 and during some of this period I acted as Treasurer and later Chairman. I recently retired from a career in Banking and Financial Services and now have time to become more involved with the community and wish to give some time, and hopefully some of my commercial experience, back to the village that has become our home.’’
