Broadnook – Leicestershire’s first Garden Village

Have you, like many others in Barrow, been frustrated by the traffic delays caused by the A6 road works in Birstall near the A46?

It’s all in aid of Broadnook Garden Village which, apparently, takes its name from a local, ancient spinney that runs through the site. You can now see a rather 1950s-looking billboard reminiscent of Ladybird Janet and John books. The press release says, “the village will offer beautiful homes ranging from one to five bedrooms, all part of the developers' vision for a bespoke modern community that encapsulates the best of town and countryside.” Sadly, the press release doesn’t mention if the homes are taking into account sustainability (as we have just witnessed our wettest year on record). No mention of homes being built with solar panels. No mention of homes being built with heat source pumps. No mention of any ‘affordable homes’ (whatever they are!) being included in the site. Oh well, I’m sure it’ll be a lovely place to live.
