Success for Barrow Town Cricket Club’s Junior team

U13 County League winners

Barrow Town Cricket Club Junior section had its most successful season ever last summer, with their Under 11 Rockets team becoming both County League and Cup champions and the Under 13s finishing the season as County League champions. They are hoping to continue their success this summer.

The club held a very successful Finals Day on Sunday 10th September, attended by several hundred spectators who watched the club’s U11 Rockets and U13s both play in their respective County League Finals. In the morning the Rockets beat Rothley in a very close game that went down to the final ball. Barrow needed to not lose a wicket to win the game and the last pair of batters showed great composure in a thrilling finish, winning by just two runs.

In the afternoon game, the U13s batted first against Loughborough Town and scored 134 from their 20 overs, ultimately winning by 35 runs.

Earlier in the season the U11 Rockets won the County Under 11 Cup competition after comfortably beating Kibworth in the final. This was a first for the club, as it was the first time a Barrow junior team has won both competitions in the same season.

This summer the club will be expecting to cater for over 120 juniors, including 60 under eight players in the ECB All Stars Programme, which runs for eight weeks in May and June.

Places for the All Stars are fully subscribed for this summer. However, they should be available again in 2025, booking via the ECB All Stars web page around March/April time [https://www.ecb.co.uk/play/all-stars]. The club will also run Kwik Cricket for U10s and enter teams in the Leicestershire Youth League in the following age groups: U11, U13, U15, U17 and U19 levels. Friday evenings during the summer months are a particularly popular social night with All Stars, Kwik and U11 cricket being played, a well-stocked bar and regular BBQs.

On the senior cricket front, the club runs four senior teams. 1st and 2nd teams play on Saturdays in the Leicestershire and Rutland County Cricket League. Last season both teams maintained their status in the Premier and 4th Divisions respectively. The 1st team reached the semi-final of the County Cup losing to eventual winners Rothley. The Sunday team came 4th in Division 1 of the Grantham and Melton league and the Thursday team won the play off final in the Loughborough Cricket Association Thursday League.

The club has excellent facilities and boasts one of the best playing surfaces in the county, all down to the dedicated and hard-working team of ground staff.

The club is always looking for new players – boys and girls – at all levels and volunteers to help out with all aspects of running the club. Especially assisting with coaching and managing the junior teams.
