Being a school governor is a very rewarding role and requires individuals who are committed to contributing to the education and wellbeing of pupils. This volunteer role requires dedication, including attendance at governing body meetings (usually, one full governing body and one to two committee meetings per term) and active participation such as governor visits and attendance at school events when available. Relevant and comprehensive training is also available.

School governors have a wide range of responsibilities, and while specific duties may vary depending on the school, there are several core areas in which they are typically involved. These are: strategic planning, performance management, financial oversight, school improvement and stakeholder engagement.

The primary purpose of a school governor is to act as a critical friend to the school, providing support and challenge to ensure the best possible outcomes for all students and an enjoyable and balanced working environment for staff. Each governor brings a unique perspective and has the opportunity to make a positive contribution to the community. Hall Orchard governors come from various backgrounds and bring a range of skills to the role. We are currently looking for governors from the local community or business who may have a background in education, finance, or HR, but an enthusiasm to be a dedicated member of our team is most important.

If you are interested in becoming a governor at Hall Orchard and want to know more, please email ChairGovernors@hall-orchard.leics.sch.uk and if you wish to apply for the role please email with a covering letter of your experience and reasons for wishing to join our governing body. We would love to hear from you.

Vicky Bowman
Chair of Governors
