Barrow Summer Fete Dog Show
 Dog Show

There was a fantastic atmosphere at BUSCA’s Barrow Summer Fete, held at Humphrey Perkins School. Host to stalls, entertainment, food and even a dog show, the school grounds were filled with residents… and their dogs.

The event began at midday when visitors could enter, enjoy refreshments and browse the stalls. The majority of these were in the school’s drama hall, which gave a market-like feel to the area, where people could buy a wide variety of goods - from handbags and wool to pies and cake. There was certainly something for everyone and some great gifts to be had too.

On the playground, visitors enjoyed food from a variety of vendors, including the classic fish and chips. Live music serenaded people as they ate. A resident commented on one musician, “She has some real talent! She is so brave to get up there and perform in front of so many people.”

The Royal Fancy Dress competition, judged by Della Bartram, principal of Humphrey Perkins School, presented some real competition making it difficult for her to decide who was best dressed.

The winner won a party pack for their Coronation Street Party. The prize was donated by the parish council and presented by its Chair, Cllr Sandie Forrest.

The much-anticipated dog show was the final event of the day. Barrow residents turned out in their hundreds with their dogs hoping to secure a coveted rosette. There were six categories to enter: best puppy, best veteran, waggiest tail, dog the judge would most like to take home, best rescue and best junior handler.

Rosettes were presented from first to sixth place, with dogs who were placed first or second getting the opportunity to enter the Best in Show category. Feather and Fur pet shop kindly sponsored the event and provided vouchers to their shop as prizes, which were very well received.

Overall, this was a great event which was enjoyed very much by Barrow residents, many of whom said that they hope it can return next year!
