The spring issue of Barrow Voice published the winning poems from the Library Poetry Competition. Sadly, one of the winning entries had the last line omitted from printing. Every line and every word in a poem are chosen carefully and are there to be read, so we apologise to Lin Winter and are pleased to publish her winning poem here … in full.
Heroes by Lin Winter (Adult winner)
Authors are my heroes
They do what we don’t do
Commit their words to paper
For us all to view
There’s a book in every one of us
Is what we are told
But to write that book for others to read
Requires us to be bold
Inner thoughts, emotions revealed,
Intentional or not,
Are subliminally disguised
In every plot
Assuming a nom de plume
Is one way maybe?
To write and publish
And set that book free
The heroes in the writer’s world though,
Are the ones that own their story
They are the ones in my mind
Who deserve the glory.
