A stitch in time
A number of women in the village are spending hours at their sewing machines every day, making uniform bags and headbands for NHS staff.
A few weeks ago, a call went out for drawstring bags into which NHS workers could place their uniforms at the end of a shift, ready to go through a hot wash when they got home. They were also in need of headbands to protect against chafing by masks.
Barrow's kind hearted seamstresses, rose to the challenge and to date more than 1000 bags have been made and collected by the Barrow upon Soar Helping Hands group, for distribution to three Leicester hospitals. For more information on the group, see the article entitled “More than Just a Helping Hand”.
Barrow residents have generously donated fabric, elastic, buttons and more. Here are pictures of some of the ladies hard at work at their machines.
