This summer welcomes a brand-new café and farm shop at the top of Melton Road. It was launched and run by young entrepreneur 18-yearold Millie Hall, who says she is thrilled to be taking up this “amazing opportunity”.
The café and farm shop are based at High Meadows Farm, owned by Bill Finney, the proprietor of the Caravan Park and Holiday Lodges on this site. The farm has a special connection for Millie and her family, as it was formerly owned by Millie’s grandparents, and is where her mum grew up.
Millie told Barrow Voice, “The farm itself holds many special memories for my whole family, particularly of my granddad who is dearly missed. So, to be opening the café on this spot is so special. The building was already in place and when Bill approached me and my family with the opportunity to run it, I really jumped at it. Even as a youngster I enjoyed baking for friends and family, but I have never previously sold my bakes.” Millie lives in Barrow and went to Hall Orchard and Humphrey Perkins schools so she is well placed to know what her customers will enjoy.
Customers can pick up a coffee and one of Millie’s delicious homemade delights, including cupcakes, brownies, cookies and savoury light bites. Sitting outside in the sunshine at picnic benches with fine views of Charnwood Forest makes a delightful experience. In the farm shop, you’ll find local produce including Sunrise eggs, Julia’s bread, Driver’s pickles, local honey and Manor Farm dairy products, plus plenty of daily-delivered, locally sourced fresh fruit and vegetables.
The shop and café are both open Tuesday- Thursday 10am – 4pm, Friday & Saturday 9am – 5pm and Sunday 10am – 4pm. She will be closed Mondays except on bank holidays. There is plenty of parking.
Barrow Voice wishes Millie all the best for the success of this venture.
